Using Grounding to Reduce Inflammation

Grounding  Or Earthing can be defined as direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth, such as with your bare feet or hands. If you have not heard this term before. It is this simple: It is the act of connecting our body with the surface of the earth. Skin to ground contact is best. But we can and will receive the same benefits with our shoes on.

Basic benefits include

  • Aligns our natural balance with those of the earth
  • Normalizes sleep and cortisol rhythms overall
  • Reduces pain
  • Reduces stress
  • Calms the mind
  • Protection from Electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs)
  • Shifts the nervous system from sympathetic to parasympathetic response

I recently came across a thermal imaging study which proved the reduction in inflammation following simply spending time outside connected to the earth.

The Study found grounding reduces or even prevents the cardinal signs of inflammation following injury: including redness, heat, swelling, pain, and loss of function (See Pictures below)  Finding showed:

  • rapid resolution of painful chronic inflammation
  • confirmed inflammation was reduced in 20 cases using medical infrared imaging

The thermal images below are of a 44 year old woman with Chronic back pain. The image on the left was taken before grounding – the right after grounding. The red areas indicate areas of pain and inflammation. By the image on the right it is clear inflammation and redness are reduced substantially. Simple but so amazing.

The main finding was simply this: “connecting the body to the Earth enables free electrons from the Earth’s surface to spread over and into the body, where they can have antioxidant effects.”

So an amazing way to heal Inflammation is to spend some time outside. This means if you have redness, swelling or pain in the body simply sitting on the ground, gardening or taking a gentle walk outside could prove to be very healing.
